Is it safe to have sex during pregnancy?

Pregnancy can be an exciting and a terrifying time in a woman’s life. If you are in a committed relationship or married, you will have some form of support from your partner during the time.

Though the result of pregnancy is a bundle of joy, those nine months are also an emotional roller coaster ride due to the surge of hormones. Sometimes you feel like eating spicy food and sometimes you want sour. And at times, you get horny as hell. But is it wise to have sex when you are pregnant?

This question often runs in a couple’s mind.

You can have sex when you are pregnant, provided you have a normal low- risk pregnancy. You may have to use different positions. But be warned that sex may feel different when you are carrying a baby inside.

One of the biggest worries for mothers-to-be is if sex during pregnancy can hurt/ infect the baby or cause labour pain.

Your baby is protected in a secure amniotic sac and by the strong muscles in your womb. The penis never gets beyond the vagina and sex will not harm your baby in any way. But you may get some temporary contractions while or after having sex. These are not labour inducing contractions though.

It is best to speak with your doctor and get their guidance on the risk of your pregnancy. If you have a weakness in your cervix or some other form of complication, you may have to abstain from sex. But for a normal case of pregnancy, you can enjoy sex right until the birth of your child. But obviously, beware that it won’t be like your normal sex. Moreover, the man in your life may be too stressed about accidentally hurting you or the baby. So take it easy.
